#4 Ferris State Volleyball Caps Unbeaten Weekend With Decisive Home Win

Big Rapids, Mich. - Fourth-ranked Ferris State completed its weekend homestand unbeaten as the Bulldog Volleyball squad rolled past visiting Ohio Dominican 3-0 on Saturday (Oct.3) afternoon inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs beat the Panthers in commanding fashion in the first set by a 25-13 score and then took a 25-19 win in the second frame before pulling out a 27-25 victory in the third to claim the triumph.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 15-1 overall this season and the lone remaining unbeaten team in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings with a 7-0 conference record.

Senior outside hitter Alexis Huntey guided the Bulldogs past ODU by recording a team-high 14 kills and 12 digs in the FSU victory. Meanwhile, senior outside hitter Megan Vander Meer added 12 kills and 14 digs with senior middle hitter Caroline Heitzman totaling 11 kills.

Ferris State also received a strong performance from senior libero Danielle Dowd, who had a squad-best 18 digs. Junior setter Stephanie Sikorski also joined Dowd, Huntey and Vander Meer in recording double-figure digs with 10 to go with her 36 assists in the match.

FSU totaled a .309 attack percentage for the match with 49 kills. In addition, the Bulldogs recorded five service aces with only four errors and notched 77 digs to go with two solo blocks and 10 assists at the net.

Heitzman totaled three block assists for the Bulldogs while Vander Meer, Sikorski and sophomore middle hitter Ayanna Buckley all factored in two blocks each.

The Panthers, who fell to 7-9 overall this year and 2-5 in the GLIAC, were paced by Jackie Oestreich with 12 kills. Anna Ficker posted a team-best 16 digs while Darby Slavin had 19 assists to go with 10 digs in the setback.

Overall, Ohio Dominican hit only .141 for the afternoon and came up with 56 digs, 35 kills and three aces. The Panthers also had six service mistakes and four block assists.

The win was Ferris State's 19th-straight home victory at the Ewigleben Sports Arena. The Bulldogs have presently won 31 of their last 33 home matches and own a 57-6 overall mark at home dating back to the 2011 season.

Ferris State hits the road next weekend for two GLIAC matches as the Bulldogs visit Ashland on Friday, Oct. 9, for a 7 p.m. (ET) tilt and then head to Lake Erie on Saturday, Oct. 10, for a 5 p.m. (ET) conference encounter.
