Bulldog Volleyball Downs Non-Conference Foes In Back-To-Back Matches

Grand Rapids, Mich. -  On short rest, the Ferris State University women's volleyball squad defeated Olivet Nazarene 3-0 and Davenport 3-1 on the campus of Davenport University on Saturday (Sept. 24) in non-league action.

In the first match, FSU cruised to a 25-12, 25-20, 25-15 victory over ONU, and hit a combined .356 overall.

Freshman outside hitter Allyson Cappel started a strong day with 15 kills and hit a fiery .625. Sophomore outside hitter Katie Placek and junior middle hitter Maria Kronner both added nine kills for the Bulldogs.

Lizzie Jackson led Olivet Nazarene in kills with five and hit .500 on 10 chances.

Defensively, junior libero Lauren Reminga had 15 digs versus ONU, while Placek earned 13 overall.

The Bulldogs had four total blocks to ONU's seven. Cappel finished with a match-high two solo blocks for Ferris Statemwhile Rachel Kirby had ONU's only solo block.

Senior setter Stephanie Sikorski had 35 assists for Ferris State, while Olivet Nazarene combined for just 26.

In the second match, Ferris State downed the host Davenport Panthers 28-26, 20-25, 25-19, 25-15 in four sets.

Cappel capped her landmark day with 22 kills against the Panthers, to bring her single-day total to 37, leading Ferris State. Junior outside hitter Ayanna Buckley had nine kills for Ferris State, and the Bulldogs combined to hit .227 to Davenport's .115 mark.

Sikorski also had a strong showing in the second match with 46 assists, while adding six kills.

Four Bulldogs finished with 11 or more digs in the second match, with Cappel and Reminga leading FSU with 17 apiece. Senior libero Kaley Konjarevich had 15, while Placek added 11.

At the net, Ferris State had 11 blocks to Davenport's seven. Kronner led FSU with three block assists.

The Bulldogs had a strong showing from the service stripe with eight service aces. Reminga and senior setter Jenna Way each had two for Ferris State.

Krissy Dill kept DU in the match with a team-best 12 kills and 17 digs. 

With the victories, Ferris State improved to 8-5 overall in 2016. The Bulldogs return to GLIAC action for a Tuesday night date with the Grand Valley State Lakers on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. (ET).
