Bulldog Volleyball Keeps Win Streak Alive As 'Dawgs Finish Perfect At Regional Crossover

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad kept its impressive streak alive as the Bulldogs wrapped up play in the nation's largest collegiate tournament with a perfect record on Saturday (Oct. 15) at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill.

The Bulldogs increasted their win streak to 12 consecutive matches as they posted a pair of wins in final day play. FSU topped Lewis 3-2 in the opener on Saturday before topping Quincy (Ill.) by a 3-1 score.

In the opener versus Lewis, the Bulldogs took the opening set 25-22, but then had to fight back as the Flyers captured the second and third frames by 25-22 and 25-15 scores. FSU was victorious in the fourth set 25-22 and then won the fifth and final frame 18-16 as the two teams went to extra points.

The Bulldogs posted a .182 attack figure and came up with 57 kills and 24 errors on 181 attempts. FSU also finished with 81 digs, eight block assists and seven aces to go with three solo hits at the net.

Junior middle hitter Maria Kronner posted 18 kills for the Bulldogs while freshman Allyson Cappel added 14 kills and 15 digs in the winning performance. FSU also received eight kills apiece from sophomore Katie Placek and Ayanna Buckley.

Defensively, Placek had a team-high 18 digs while Cappel added 15, libero Lauren Reminga totaled 13 and both senior setter Stephanie Sikorski and Jenna Way added 11 each. Sikorski posted 48 assists in the FSU win.

Meanwhile, Lewis compiled a .222 hitting figure with 65 kills on 180 attempts and 25 mistakes. The Flyers finished with 86 digs, 10 aces, 14 block assists and two solo efforts at the net.

In the second match, Ferris State won the first set again over Quincy 25-23 before the Hawks won the second frame 25-22. FSU took the third set 25-20 and then sealed the win with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.

The Bulldogs hit a solid .248 in the win over the Hawks and came up with 55 kills, 67 digs, seven aces and five solo blocks with four assisted stops at the net. 

Buckley paced FSU in the second match with 14 kills while Placek added 13 kills and Cappel totaled 12 overall. Reminga posted 21 digs, Cappel finished with 12, Kaley Konjarevich netted 11 and Placek posted 10 digs. Sikorski totaled 46 assists.

Quincy registered a .250 hitting figure and had 63 kills, 70 digs, nine solo blocks and one ace.
Ferris State improved to 16-5 overall with the perfect 3-0 mark at the Midwest Regional Crossover.

The Bulldogs return back to GLIAC play on Oct. 21 as they visit Findlay for a 7 p.m. (ET) league match in Findlay, Ohio. FSU then visits Wayne State on Saturday (Oct. 22) for a 4 p.m. (ET) league tilt.
