Bulldogs Claim 15th-Straight Win In Four-Set Triumph Over Michigan Tech At Home

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad picked up its 15th-straight win as the nationally 21st-ranked Bulldogs topped Michigan Tech 3-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday (Oct. 28) night inside FSU's Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs returned home for the first time in three weeks and jumped out to a 2-0 lead with wins of 26-24 and 25-22 in the opening two frames. However, Michigan Tech rallied for a 25-23 triumph in the third set before the Bulldogs sealed the win by beating MTU 25-21 in the fourth.

With the win, Ferris State improved to 19-5 overall and 10-1 in the GLIAC while Michigan Tech dropped to 11-13 overall and 6-5 in league action.

Freshman hitter Allyson Cappel paced FSU with a match-high 16 kills while junior Ayanna Buckley added 11 kills and sophomore Katie Placek chipped in with 10 in the victory. FSU also received eight kills from middle hitter Maria Kronner as part of an attack that tallied 50 kills on 152 attempts with 22 errors.

Ferris State hit .184 overall for the evening, but allowed MTU to post a .235 attack figure. The Huskies netted 61 kills with 25 mistakes on 153 attacks. 

Defensively, the Bulldogs came up with 57 digs as Kaley Konjarevich paced four FSU players in double-figures with 15 digs. Placek compiled 13 with both Cappel and libero Lauren Reminga notching 10 apiece.

Senior setter Stephanie Sikorski recorded 42 assists for the Bulldogs while Reminga totaled three service aces and Konjarevich had two aces. 

Up front, Kronner notched a solo block and three assists at the net with Cappel registering two solos and an assist in the winning effort.

Ferris State finished with seven total blocks and seven aces with only three service mistakes.

Stephanie Dietrich led the visitors with 14 kills and Lauren Emmert added 13 overall. Both Elle Heinonen and Rachel Pohlod had 18 digs apiece as MTU finished with 66 digs. The Huskies also had four aces and three blocks, but netted 10 service errors.

Ferris State will be back in action on Saturday (Oct. 29) as the Bulldogs host Northern Michigan in league play. Match time is set for 5 p.m. (ET) in Big Rapids.
