Ferris State Volleyball Advances To NCAA Regional Semifinals With Quarterfinal Sweep

Big Rapids, Mich.- The Ferris State University women's volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Semifinals with a 3-0 quarterfinal-round victory over the Truman State Bulldogs on Thursday (Dec. 1) inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

Ferris State posted a 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 win to sweep eighth-seeded Truman State out of the NCAA Tournament, while hitting .142 for the evening.

Top-seeded Ferris State finished out the match hitting .211 in the third set as FSU beat TSU and advanced to the secound round of their 21st all-time NCAA Tournament appearance.

Junior outside hitter Ayanna Buckley led Ferris State with 11 kills and also registered a solo block in the match. Freshman outside hitter Allyson Cappel also had nine kills in the winning effort with junior middle hitter Maria Kronner tallying eight overall.

TSU's Kayla Bastian had 10 kills with Natalie Brimeyer marking eight for the evening.

Ferris State senior setter Stephanie Sikorksi led the match with 34 assists while Truman State combined for 30 as a team.

At the net, Truman State registered 12 block assists with Ferris State finishing with five solo blocks for the match.

Defensively, junior libero Lauren Reminga had a match-high 20 digs for the Bulldogs while sophomore outside hitter Katie Placek notched 16 digs. Bastian led TSU with 18.

FSU finished with 71 digs to TSU's 57. Three Ferris State Bulldogs finished with 14 or more. In comparison, Truman State had only Bastian above 14 digs for the match.

Truman State struggled from the service line with seven service errors compared to Ferris State registering just two. FSU also had five service aces with Reminga leading FSU with two. TSU had three, all coming from Meghan Gasper.

With the victory, Ferris State improved to 29-6 overall and won its 25th consecutive match.

Ferris State will square off against GLIAC rival Saginaw Valley State in the second semifinal on Friday (Dec. 2) night starting at 7:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
