Ferris State Posts Sixth-Straight Win Over GVSU In West Michigan Rivalry Match

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally eighth-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball team posted a 3-0 triumph over the visiting Grand Valley State Lakers on Friday (Oct 6) night at the Ewigleben Sports Arena in Big Rapids to remain undefeated in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) play.

Ferris State beat GVSU for the sixth consecutive time in the West Michigan rivalry by a score of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-20 overall. 

Senior middle hitter Maria Kronner netted a team-high 14 kills and a .522 hitting percentage in leading the Bulldogs to the victory. Sophomore outside hitter Courtney Brewer followed behind Kronner with nine kills and a .233 hitting percentage. Senior middle hitter Ayanna Buckley had eight kills for the match. 

FSU sophomore setter Maeve Grimes had 38 assists for the match along with a kill. Meanwhile, senior libero Lauren Reminga tallied 26 digs. Junior outside hitter Katie Placek had nine digs for the night with sophomore outside hitter Allyson Cappel and Brewer totaling eight digs each. 

In the win, the Bulldogs compiled 42 kills, 58 digs and six aces. Four of the six aces came from Brewer. FSU also had a total of 12 block assists for the match with Kronner having 5 and Placek, Brewer and Grimes each posting two as part of the Bulldogs' seven total team blocks.

With her nine digs against the Lakers, FSU's Placek notched her 1,000th career dig, becoming the newest member of the school's century club.

Grand Valley State was led by Jayci Suseland and Sydney Doby with nine kills each. The Lakers totaled 34 kills for the match and were limited to a .099 hitting figure against FSU.

The Bulldogs will next square off against the Wayne State Warriors on Saturday (Oct 7) at the Ewigleben Sports Arena with match time set for 5 p.m. (EST).  The Bulldogs lead the GLIAC North Division while the Warriors are atop the GLIAC South Division standings.

With Friday's victory, FSU improved to 14-2 overall and 8-0 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs also increased their winning streak to eight consecutive matches.
