Ferris State Opens Upper Peninsula Trip With Victory To Stay Unbeaten In GLIAC

Marquette, Mich. - The nationally 11th-ranked Ferris State University Women's Volleyball team picked up its fourth consecutive win with a 3-0 sweep of the Northern Michigan Wildcats at Vandament Arena on Friday (Sept. 14) in Marquette.

The Bulldogs went 25-23, 25-19 and 25-17 to down the host Wildcats while moving to 4-0 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play to remain even in first place with the Michigan Tech Huskies.

Ferris State junior outside hitter CourtneyBrewer paced the Bulldog offensive, leading the team in kills with 12, hitting percentage at .429 and total blocks with three (all solo).

Sophomore outside hitter Katie O'Connell also had nine kills while junior middle hitter Mekayla Carey picked up eight.

In aid of the attack, junior setter Maeve Grimes had 29 assists, which led the match.

Defensively, senior libero Katie Placek had 13 digs while junior outside hitter Allyson Cappel had 11.

Ferris State out-hit Northern Michigan .222 to .059 for the match and had four service aces to NMU's one.

The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday (Sept. 15) in Houghton where the two tied-for-first place and undefeated in conference play teams in the GLIAC North Division go head-to-head in a battle for sole possession of first place. First serve is set for 4 p.m. (ET) at Michigan Tech's Student Development Complex Gymnasium.
