Nationally-Ranked Bulldogs Roll Past Northwood In GLIAC Volleyball Action

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 16th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad got back on track in a big way as the Bulldogs rolled to a 3-0 sweep over visiting Northwood on Tuesday (Sept. 24) night in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs posted a 25-12, 25-12, 25-16 win to improve to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in the GLIAC.

In the victory, the Bulldogs posted a .312 hitting figure and held NU to a -.043 showing in the dominating win. FSU had 38 kills and only nine errors in the match while Northwood totaled 20 kills and 24 hitting mistakes.

Ferris State received a team-high eight kills from senior hitter Allyson Cappel to go with seven each by junior Katie O'Connell and senior Courtney Brewer. Sophomore Julia Mitchell ran the offense from the setter position and finished with 32 assists in the win.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs also came up with 47 digs, including 16 by libero Nina Gorgijevska along with nine by sophomore Morgan Ross. Freshman Kira Merkle had three block assists and a solo hit at the net while O'Connell also had three assisted blocks.

The Bulldogs finished with eight block assists and two solo blocks in addition to four aces and seven service errors.

Northwood was led in the match by Carson Rutherford, who compiled six kills. Macy Lintz had 18 assists and Lauren Bell finished with 13 digs.

Overall, NU finished with 38 digs and totaled two aces, three service errors in addition to two block assists and a solo block.

The Bulldogs will host Purdue Northwest on Friday (Sept. 27) night at 7 p.m. (ET) in GLIAC action before entertaining Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday (Sept. 28) at 12:30 p.m.
