Ferris State Soars Past Wisconsin Parkside To Cap Homecoming Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team swept the Wisconsin Parkside Rangers 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-14) to cap their Homecoming Weekend slate in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Saturday (Sept. 28) inside Ewigleben Arena.

Ferris State junior outside hitter Katie O'Connell had a match-high 14 kills and was nearly flawless with a .520 hitting percentage. Ferris State senior outside hitter Allyson Cappel added 10 kills, while fellow senior outsider hitter Courtney Brewer also hit for a high attack percentage with nine kills at a .562 percentage.
 
As a team, Ferris State hit for a .386 attack percentage and held the Rangers to .074 attacking. Ferris State racked up 47 kills to Wisconsin Parkside's 23. In the opening set, Ferris State hit .469 and followed it by hitting .484 in the second frame.
 
Defensively, FSU junior libero Nina Gorgijevska, Brewer, and O'Connell each had 11 digs. Ferris State had four total blocks, led by Cappel's two in the match.
 
Ferris State senior setter Maeve Grimes finished with a match-high 38 assists, and added 10 digs.
 
The Rangers were led by Reese Rossnagel who had seven kills. Hallie McGuire added five kills for Parkside. 
 
The Bulldogs controlled service, with five service aces, led by Gorgijevska and Cappel who each had two.
 
Ferris State returns home to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday (Oct. 4) at Ewigleben Arena in GLIAC play at 7:00 pm (ET)
