Ferris State's Allyson Cappel Tabbed To Academic All-District First Team

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University senior volleyball standout Allyson Cappel (Tinley Park, Ill.) has been tabbed to the 2019 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team.

The 2019 Academic All-District Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Honorees selected First Team Academic All-District advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.

This season, Cappel led the Bulldogs to the school's sixth consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular-Seasonn Championship. In 27 matches to date, she's compiled a team-high 411 kills with 311 digs, 32 blocks and 31 aces while ranking as one of the country's top performers. The three-time All-America choice has played a key role in FSU's 22-5 mark this season.

The CoSIDA Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America programs.

Cappel and the Bulldogs will host the quarterfinal round of the GLIAC Tournament against Parkside on Wednesday (Nov. 20) night with match time set for 6 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena. The Bulldogs would also host the semifinals and finals this Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 23-24) as the top seed by beating Parkside in the first round.
