Ferris State Stays Perfect With Third Victory Of The Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad stayed perfect on the season as the Bulldogs rolled past Missouri-St. Louis in a 3-0 sweep on Friday (Sept. 3) evening inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

FSU capped off an unbeaten day of action and moved to 3-0 on the season with a 25-17, 25-18 and 25-22 triumph in its own annual Ferris State Invitational presented by the Holiday Inn.

The Bulldogs got a match-high 18 kills from senior hitter Katie O'Connell, who added 13 digs in the victory. Meanhile, Keona Salesman chipped in with nine kills while both Samantha Hermann and Kira Merkle totaled eight kills each.

Defensively, the Bulldogs got 20 digs from setter Kaylee Maat, who added 35 assists. Libero Nina Gorgijevska added 18 digs with O'Connell notching 14 digs. A pair of freshmen, Claire Nowicki and Leah Bylut, both had 11 digs in the balanced effort.

FSU hit .240 for the match and came up with 51 kills while totaling only 15 errors. The Bulldogs also had 86 digs with eight block assists and three aces.

On the opposite side, Ferris State held the Tritons to only a .137 attack figure and UMSL netted 34 kills with 73 digs and two aces. Charlotte Richards led Missouri-St. Louis with 10 kills and Megan Woll had 22 digs.

The Bulldogs will be back in action and look to finish the weekend 4-0 at the Ferris State Invitational as they host Winona State on Saturday (Sept. 4) starting at 4:30 p.m. (ET).
