Ferris State Volleyball Caps Perfect Weekend With Victory Over Regional Crossover

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball team capped off a perfect weekend with a 3-1 triumph on Saturday (Oct. 16) over Missouri-St. Louis at the Midwest Regional Crossover in Hammond, Ind.

The Bulldogs dropped the opening set 25-23, but came back to win the next three frames by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-12 to improve to 14-4 overall.

With the win, the Bulldogs have now won their last nine matches in a row.

Ferris State's Kira Merkle tallied 22 kills in leading FSU with senior hitter Katie O'Connell adding 21 kills. Freshman Keona Salesman added nine kills.

FSU senior libero Nina Gorgijevska tallied 36 digs with freshman Kaylee Maat adding 16 digs. The Bulldogs also got 14 digs apiece from both O'Connell along with Brooke Norder.

Maat totaled 57 assists in orchestrating the FSU attack.

The Bulldogs compiled a .277 attack figure and came up with 101 digs, 67 kills and nine blocks to go with six service aces.

Meanwhile, FSU held the Tritons to a .193 hitting percentage and UMSL finished with 93 digs, 52 kills, five blocks and a single ace.

The Bulldogs will host Kalamazoo College in non-league action on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. (ET) inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.
