Bulldog Volleyball Registers 10th-Straight Win By Sweeping Visiting Hornets

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad claimed its 10th consecutive win as the Bulldogs rolled to a sweep over visiting Kalamazoo College in non-conference action on Wednesday (Oct. 20) night inside the Ewigleben Sports Arena.

The Bulldogs had 13 different players see action and won their 15th match of the year by topping the visiting Hornets 25-18, 25-13, 25-22 in the home encounter.

FSU was paced by senior middle hitter Samantha Hermann, who tallied a match-high 11 kills. Fellow middle hitter Kira Merkle added eight kills in the triumph and the balanced effort featured a total of nine different players with at least one kill in the contest.

Overall, Ferris State hit .213 for the night and limited the Hornets to a -.075 figure with Kalamazoo totaling only 15 kills to go with 21 attack errors on 80 attempts. FSU had 39 kills in comparison with only 19 hitting miscues on 94 total attacks.

Senior libero Nina Gorgijevska totaled 12 digs for the Bulldogs while both freshman Claire Nowicki and freshman Kaylee Maat had six each. Eleven of the 13 Bulldogs who saw action notched at least one dig.

Ferris State finished the contest with 37 digs and 11 service aces, including four by Audrey Bellina and three from Merkle. FSU also had six total blocks.

Kalamazoo compiled 33 digs with only six aces and three blocks. The Hornets were led by Hannah VanderLugt with five kills.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 15-4 overall this year.

Ferris State will return to GLIAC play at home on Saturday (Oct. 23) against Northwood at 2 p.m. (ET). FSU then hosts Lake Superior State for Senior Day on Sunday (Oct. 24) with match time also set for 2 p.m. The two contests this weekend will represent the final regular-season home matches ever for the Bulldogs inside the historic facility and all former players and coaches are invited back for the weekend homestead.
