Bulldogs Close Doors On Ewigleben Arena With GLIAC Quarterfinal Sweep Of Northern Michigan

Big Rapids, Mich. - For the final time after 41 years, the Ferris State University women's volleyball team took the floor and did what they've done in over 82 percent of their outings on it - won. They defeated the Northern Michigan Wildcats 3-0 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Quarterfinal to advance to the GLIAC Semifinals.

Ferris State swept Northern Michigan (25-16, 25-22, 25-23) in what was a battle in each of the final two sets. Ferris State came from behind twice to win the middle frame and was tied late in the final set before putting the Wildcats down for their 23rd win of the season and 17th consecutive victory.

For the Bulldogs, senior outside hitter Katie O'Connell had 12 kills to lead the way. Freshman middle hitter added 11 kills and hit a team-best .375 on the day for Ferris State.

Defensively, freshman setter Kaylee Maat and senior libero Nina Gorgijevska each had 13 digs, while O'Connell had 11 for the Dawgs. 

The Wildcats relied on Lizzy Stark's 13 kills on the day, while Meghan Meyer added nine for the 'Cats. Stark also had 13 digs for NMU.

On the defensive end of the ball, the Bulldogs stifled the Wildcats, holding them to a .105 attack percentage on the day while Ferris State hit .229 and outpaced NMU on the evening. 

Ferris State also registered five service aces, led by freshman outside hitter Keona Salesman and Kaylee Maat who each had a pair.

With the win, the Bulldogs are back in the GLIAC's Final Four weekend. Ferris State will face third-seeded Wayne State in the first semifinal on Saturday (Nov. 20) starting at 12 p.m. (ET) in Houghton, Mich. The second semifinal pits host and top-seeded Michigan Tech against fifth-seeded Davenport with the finale set for Sunday (Nov. 21) beginning at 2:30 p.m. (ET).
