Bulldog Volleyball Win Streak Snapped In Five-Set Road Decision

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad had its winning streak snapped on Friday (Sept. 23) night as Davenport handed FSU its first league loss of the campaign with a 3-2 triumph inside the DU Student Center in Caledonia.

The Bulldogs won a tightly-contested opening set 26-24, but DU responded by taking set two 29-27 in extra points before a 25-19 triumph in the third. Ferris State answered by beating the Panthers 25-22 in the fourth, but DU earned a 15-10 decision in the fifth frame to garner the win.

FSU fell to 7-7 overall this season with the setback and the league-leading Bulldogs are now 5-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. Davenport improved to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in the GLIAC.

The Panthers limited FSU to a .191 attack figure on the night as FSU finished with 57 kills and 23 attack errors on 178 attempts. The Bulldogs had nine service aces, but also had 21 service errors in addition to 85 digs.

For Ferris State, sophomore Claire Nowicki tallied 18 kills and 25 digs in leading FSU. Meanwhile, Syann Fairfield added 15 kills while both Olivia Henneman-Dallape and Emma Bleecher generated 10 kills apiece.

Libero Leah Bylut added 20 digs for FSU defensively with setter Kaylee Maat notching 14 digs in addition to 46 assists. Bleecher also had 10 digs in a double-double showing. The Bulldogs got a team-high three service aces from Alina Anderson to go with her 11 digs. Fairfield added six of FSU's 16 block assists in the decision.

Davenport compiled a .207 hitting figure and finished with 60 kills and 23 errors on 179 attempts. The Panthers totaled eight aces and 11 service errors in addition to 91 digs, 16 block assists and two solo blocks at the net.

DU was paced by Hayley Kreiger with 23 kills and 15 digs. Lindsay Taylor added 15 kills and 19 digs while Kenzy Corstange finished with a team-best 22 digs.

Ferris State will look to bounce back on Saturday (Sept. 24) as FSU visits Saginaw Valley State for a 4 p.m. (ET) league tilt in University Center.
