Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's 18th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad capped off an unbeaten opening weekend with a 3-0 sweep over West Virginia State on Saturday (Sept. 7) morning at the BritKare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas.
Ferris State won its final match of the three-day event by a score of 25-18, 26-24, 25-21 to move to 3-0 on the season.
Senior outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape spearheaded the Bulldog attack with 14 kills in the victory. Senior setter Kaylee Maat tallied 30 assists for FSU.
The Bulldogs compiled a .240 hitting percentage and finished the match with 39 kills and 14 attack errors on 104 attempts. They also notched 53 digs in the win, including 14 by Emma Bleacher and 11 from libero Leah Bylut.
Meanwhile, Ferris State recorded three solo blocks to go with four block assists and five service aces. Both Syann Fairfield and Chelsie Freeman had a solo and an assist at the net while Corrie Wisser came on for three service aces individually.
West Virginia State was held to a .088 attack figure with the Yellow Jackets notching 30 kills, but 20 attack errors on 113 tries. They finished with 45 digs and had five aces with two solo blocks and four block assists.
Maureen Mathews led West Virginia State with 13 kills and Milla Smith had 12 digs.
The Bulldogs will travel to the University of Alabama-Huntsville Invitational next weekend, Set. 13-14, for four more non-conference matches.
