Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's 12th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad rolled to a pair of 3-0 sweeps on Friday (Sept. 13) in day one action at the University of Alabama Huntsville Invitational.
Ferris State topped Emmanuel (Ga.) in the opener and then swept Tusculum (Tenn.) in the finale to move to 5-0 on the year.
In the opener at Spragins Hall on the UAH campus, the Bulldogs posted a 25-13, 25-21, 25-16 triumph while hitting an impressive .356 overall with 42 kills and only 10 attack errors.
The Bulldogs were paced in the opening match by Emma Bleecher with 10 kills, Olivia Henneman-Dallape with nine kills and Chelsie Freeman with eight. Syann Fairfield tallied seven kills in the win.
Senior Kaylee Maat notched 27 assists for the Bulldogs and had two service aces as did Hannah Tecumseh. Clarie Nowicki notched a team-high 13 digs and Leah Bylut recorded eight digs.
In the second match, Ferris State took down Tusculum by a count of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-17. FSU posted a .370 attack figure in match two, notching 50 kills to go with only 13 attack errors on 100 attempts.
Henneman-Dallape led FSU in the final match of the day with 18 kills and Fairfield chipped in 10 kills. Maat registered 37 assists while Corrie Wisser posted three service aces. The Bulldogs also got eight digs each from both Bylut and Nowicki in the triumph.
The Bulldogs will close out the trip to Alabama on Saturday (Sept. 14) by facing host Alabama Huntsville at 11 a.m. (ET) before meeting Harding (Ark.) starting at 3:30 p.m. (ET).
