#5 Ferris State Caps Off Season-Opening Road Stretch Unbeaten By Beating Northwood

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad, which is ranked fifth in the nation this week, capped off a season-opening road stretch in perfect fashion as the Bulldogs topped Northwood 3-1 on Tuesday (Oct. 1) evening at Riepma Arena in Midland.

The Bulldogs beat the Timberwolves by a 25-19, 25-14, 19-25, 25-20 score to move to 12-0 overall this year. The victory came in the 12th-straight match away from home to open the year for FSU.

Ferris State, which will play its first home action of the year in Big Rapids this coming weekend, stayed unbeaten on the season by beating NU in the non-league tilt.

The Bulldogs had a balanced effort in the triumph with 11 kills each from senior middle hitter Chelsie Freeman along with senior outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape and junior middle hitter Syann Fairfield. Senior setter Kaylee Maat totaled 46 assists.

FSU compiled a .363 hitting figure in the win, producing 55 kills on 113 attacks with 14 attack errors. The Bulldogs also notched 44 digs and finished with seven service aces to go with 10 block assists and a solo block.

Henneman-Dallape and senior libero Leah Bylut both netted a team-high eight digs in the victory while Hannah Tecumseh and Emma Bleecher recorded two service aces each.

Freeman recorded three block assists for FSU as did senior Claire Nowicki. Fairfield added two block assists and Henneman-Dallape tallied Ferris State's lone solo effort at the net.

FSU had an impressive .714 attack percentage in set two and also hit .455 in the fourth frame.

On the opposite side, Northwood was limited to a .193 hitting figure with 41 kills and 19 attack errors on 114 attempts. The Timberwolves finished with 38 digs and also had seven aces with 12 block assists and two solo blocks. Both teams also had 12 service errors.

Kiana Martens led NU with 15 kills overall and Sydney Hasenfratz added 13 kills. Meanwhile, Macy Kellstrom recorded 14 digs with Renee Brines producing 35 assist as Northwood dropped to 10-3 overall this year.

FSU returns home to play its first home contests this coming weekend, hosting Parkside on Friday (Oct. 4) and Purdue Northwest on Saturday (Oct. 5) as part of homecoming weekend in Big Rapids with both tilts set for 6 p.m. (ET).
