Big Rapids, Mich. - The second-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad opened the month of November with a 3-1 decision over the Wayne State Warriors in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play on Friday (Nov. 1) evening inside Bulldog Arena.
FSU fought off a tough challenge from the Warriors for the win and is now 23-0 overall and atop the GLIAC with a 12-0 league record. WSU fell to 10-11 overall and 7-4 in conference play.
The Bulldogs took the opening set 25-16, but Wayne State responded with a 29-27 win in set two. Ferris State rallied for a close 27-25 victory in the third set and put the match away by taking a 25-18 triumph in set four.
Bulldog senior outside hitter Olivia Henneman-Dallape led the FSU charge with 18 kills in the contest to go with six digs and three blocks. Freshman Gabby Piazza came off the bench to notch 11 kills for the Bulldogs while senior middle hitter Syann Fairfield finished with nine kills and two blocks.
Ferris State senior setter Kaylee Maat produced 38 assists and 12 digs for the Bulldogs in the win and also added a team-high four service aces. Meanwhile, Corrie Wisser added three aces and Claire Nowicki netted two.
Additionally, Nowicki also contributed seven kills and nine digs and notched her 1,000th career dig in the process. Bulldog middle hitter Chelsie Freeman totaled four block assists at the net with two aces and five kills.
The Bulldogs posted a .310 attack figure and came up with 52 kills, 49 digs, 13 service aces, 10 block assists and three solo blocks overall.
The Warriors were led by Kayla Giroux with 13 kills. Kendyl Andrews totaled 11 digs and Kayla Dulgar finished with 34 assists. WSU posted a .229 hitting percentage and recorded 54 kills, 49 digs, nine block assists and six aces.
The Bulldogs will play host to rival and nationally 12th-ranked Grand Valley State in a GLIAC showdown on Saturday (Nov. 2) inside Bulldog Arena starting at 3 p.m. (ET).
