
#1 Ferris State Closes Out Perfect Regular-Season With Road Sweep At Parkside
Big Rapids, Mich. - Nationally top-ranked Ferris State University capped off a perfect regular-season as the Bulldogs beat Parkside 3-0 on Saturday (Nov. 16) in Kenosha, Wis., to move to 28-0 overall this year.
The Bulldogs' current 28-0 mark is the nation's best and the Bulldogs completed Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play with an unblemished 17-0 league record. FSU had won the league's outright regular-season crown on Friday evening prior to the Bulldogs' road win at Purdue Northwest.
In Saturday's weekend finale, FSU scored a 25-16, 25-15, 25-20 win at De Simone Arena.
Ferris State finished the match with 40 kills to go with 43 digs, eight blocks and four service aces. The Rangers offset their work with only 18 kills along with 44 digs, eight blocks and three aces.
The Bulldogs were led by senior Claire Nowicki with 14 kills in the match. Senior middle hitter Chelsie Freeman added eight kills and senior Olivia Henneman-Dallape finished with six kills.
FSU's Nowicki along with freshman Alana Deshetsky both had two aces. Meanwhile, senior setter Kaylee Maat joined senior middle hitter Syann Fairfield with three blocks and Freeman posted two.
Maat also directed the attack with 26 assists for Ferris State. The combination of Nowicki and Emma Bleecher both inked nine digs each and Maat had seven for FSU.
The Bulldogs will open GLIAC Tournament action as the number one seed and will host eighth-seeded Purdue Northwest on Wednesday (Nov. 20) evening in quarterfinal-round play at Bulldog Arena starting at 7 p.m. (ET). With a win in the quarterfinals, the Bulldogs would then play host as well to the league semifinals and finals on Nov. 23-24.
