#16 Ferris State Beats Roosevelt In Three Sets To Cap Weekend Road Sweep
CHICAGO — The nationally 16th-ranked Ferris State University women's volleyball squad used a balanced attack to sweep Roosevelt 25-14, 29-27, 25-14 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) volleyball road match Saturday (Oct. 4) at the Goodman Center in downtown Chicago.
The win was FSU's second in as many nights, giving the Bulldogs a league road sweep.
Gabby Piazza led the Bulldogs (10-4, 5-1 GLIAC) with 13 kills and four blocks, while Maddy Vaara added seven kills and five blocks. Emily May chipped in eight kills without an error, and setter Hayley Wegener guided the offense with 33 assists and 10 digs. Hope Davies led FSU defensively with 13 digs.
Ferris State hit .343 as a team, including a blistering .478 in the opening set, while limiting Roosevelt to just .067 hitting.
Isabel Grana paced Roosevelt (1-14, 0-6) with seven kills, and Lihi Zaibert added seven kills, two blocks and two aces. The Lakers' best chance came in the second set, where they pushed Ferris to extra points before falling 29-27.
The Bulldogs controlled the first and third sets with strong serving and net play, recording nine total team blocks and five service aces in the match.
Ferris State will visit Davenport on Tuesday (Oct. 7) for a conference road match starting at 7 p.m. (ET). FSU then heads to Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Oct. 10) and Lake Superior State on Saturday (Oct. 11) to continue an eight-match road swing.
