The Ferris State University women’s volleyball program tabbed former collegiate All-America standout Hannah (Nimrick) Wuest as its assistant coach prior to the 2021 spring season in an announcement made by longtime FSU head coach Tia Brandel-Wilhelm.

Wuest, who most recently had served the past two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Indianapolis, joined the six-time defending Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Champion Bulldogs as they prepare for the start of the 2021 spring season and helped FSU to a GLIAC Tournament Semifinal finish in the shortened campaign.

Prior to landing at Indianapolis, Wuest served for one season at NCAA Division I South Dakota State following a standout career at Elmhurst College, where she was a two-time All-American setter and set the school’s career mark for assists with 4,238 in her career.

“Hannah will be a fantastic addition to our program and we are really excited to add her to our staff,” said Brandel-Wilhelm. “Her experiences as an All-America setter give her the ability to understand the offensive and defensive systems in competition. She is also very good at skill development and will be able to step into the gym and help our players improve.

“Overall, Hannah’s commitment to high values and strong relationships as well as her willingness to work hard to be great will fit well with our program,” she added.

Wuest helped Indianapolis compile a 21-10 overall record and earn a NCAA Tournament berth under head coach Jason Reed during the 2019 campaign. In her initial campaign with the Greyhounds in 2018, UIndy finished with a 19-12 overall record. While with Indianapolis, she helped develop three-time All-Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) standout and 2019 CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America setter Alyssa Spears.

During her time at South Dakota State as a graduate assistant coach, Wuest worked with the setters and also served as the program’s video coordinator.

The Elmhurst College graduate was both a two-time all-region and all-conference selection in addition to being an All-American in her collegiate career. She set the program’s single-season record for assists in 2014 and completed her Master’s Degree in sports management from UIndy. Wuest helped the Bluejays win two conference titles, reach a NCAA Division III regional three times and post a four-year record of 115-39 while at Elmhurst. She also has experience coaching club level volleyball teams.

Hannah and her husband, Kyle, were married in the summer of 2020.
