Ferris Cross Country Teams Drawing Attention

Big Rapids, Mich. - Both the Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams are drawing attention, according to the latest polls announced this week (Oct. 7) by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Bulldog women's cross country team is ranked 21st nationally this week by the USTFCCCA and is also listed fourth in the Midwest Regional Rankings.  Meanwhile, the men's team is also ranked within the region, coming in at number eight in this week's poll.  Both Ferris State teams are guided by second-year head coach Steve Picucci.

The women's squad is one of six Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams found in the top 10 of the regional poll and trail top-ranked Grand Valley State along with Southern Indiana and Hillsdale in the top three overall.

In the men's regional listing, Ferris is among five conference teams featured in the poll.  GVSU also tops the men's regional listing with Southern Indiana second and Drury (Mo.) third.

Nationally, the women's top five teams consist of Chico State (Calif.), GVSU, Missouri Southern State, Adams State (Colo.) and Alaska-Anchorage.  Hillsdale (#16) and Findlay (#24) join Grand Valley State and Ferris State as teams ranked nationally from the GLIAC.

GVSU is the lone men's team from a conference school ranked in the nation's latest top 25 teams as the Lakers are listed fourth overall behind Adams State, Western State (Colo.) and Chico State in the men's poll.

The Ferris State teams last competed in the Division II Pre-National Invitational (Sept. 26) hosted by Southern Indiana where the women took third and the men placed fifth at Evansville, Ind.

FSU is slated to compete this Saturday (Oct. 10) in the Wisconsin-Parkside Lucian Rosa Open on the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course starting at 11:30 a.m. (ET) in Kenosha Wis.

The GLIAC Championships will be hosted by Saginaw Valley State and are slated for Saturday, Oct. 24, in University Center, Mich.
