Popular MTU Pep Band To Perform At Ballpark
Big Rapids, Mich. - Michigan Tech University will be bringing
more than its football squad next Saturday (Oct. 3) when it travels
to Comstock Park for the "Battle At The Ballpark" against the
Ferris State Bulldogs at Fifth Third Ballpark.
In addition to the football team and supporters who will be on hand
for the unique gridiron clash between FSU and MTU at the home of
Minor League Baseball's West Michigan Whitecaps, the infamous
Michigan Tech Pep Band consisting of nearly 100 to
150 members will also be in attendance and perform during
halftime festivities.
The Huskies Pep Band, which bills itself as "The Cream of the
Keweenaw, The Pride of Pastyland, The Second Best Feeling in the
World," is known for its often irreverent cheers and taunts as well
as unique uniforms consisting of Black and Gold striped bib
overalls and creative hats. The band performs regularly at
all MTU home football, men's and women's basketball along with ice
hockey games as well as parades and other local events.
The band has often been recognized as one of the best bands in NCAA
Division I hockey due to its sheer power and energy
and firm roots in tradition. They are known for performing
traditional songs along with a variety of selections in popular
music as well as their creative visual performances during halftime
shows.
The Huskies Pep Band is currently under the direction of
Nicholas Enz, who has overseen a massive growth of the band, which
now maintains a total membership of close to 300. In recent years,
the band has been chosen to serve as the official band of the
Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WHCA) Final Five Tournament
and has also appeared in the annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade in
Saint Paul, Minn.
According to the band's official website (http://dawgs.students.mtu.edu/),
a simple internet search for pep band yields over 920,000
results and the Michigan Tech Huskies Pep Band is consistently at
the top of the list. The band is a quintessential part of the
Michigan Tech experience. Members represent nearly every academic
unit on campus and the band provides an environment that fosters
teamwork, time-management, interpersonal skills, leadership, and
creativity that supplement those taught in the traditional academic
classroom.
Kickoff for the "Battle at the Ballpark" is set for 7 p.m. (EDT) at
Fifth Third Ballpark and a number of special pregame promotions and
events are planned in conjunction with the game.
