Ferris State Men's Golf Wins "FIndianapolis" Invitational

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf team captured its first championship of the spring season as the Bulldogs wrapped up play on Tuesday (April 2) with a first-place finish at the "FIndianapolis" Intercollegiate tournament.

The Bulldogs finished the two-day event with a three-round 856 team total, finishing eight-under par for the event and two shots ahead of runner-up host Indianapolis (858). Northwood placed third (867) in the six-team field at Chariot Run Golf Club in Laconia, Ind.

Ferris State shot a first-round 285 figure followed by a 282 in round two and a 289 in the final round.

FSU's Caleb Bond emerged as the individual medalist with a 207 total, coming in at nine-under par for the 54 holes. He shot a 66 in round one and a 67 in round two before closing with a 74 and was two strokes ahead of Indianapolis' Maverick Conaway for individual honors.

The Bulldogs' Nathan Kraynyk shot a 214 figure and tied for fifth overall at two-under, carding scores of 71 and 70 in the first two rounds along with a 73 in round three.

Meanwhile, McCoy Biagioli placed tied for eighth in the field at 216 overall, finishing even for the tournament. He opened with back-to-back 73's before closing with a 70 in the final round.

FSU's Zach Koerner placed tied for 11th at three-over with a 219 score. Koerner shot a 75 in round one and finished with identical 72 scores in the final two rounds.

Ferris State's Kole Putnam competed as an individual and placed tied for 19th with a 223 (+7) score. He shot a 70 in round one followed by a 76 in round two and a 77 in the last round.

FSU's Sam Havey notched a 230 figure and tied for 32nd on the leaderboard at +14 overall, shooting scores of 78, 77 and 75 in the three rounds of action.

Finally, Ferris State's Shayne Beaufait also competed as an individual and wound up 42nd overall for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs are next slated to compete in the 2024 GLIAC Championships on April 12-14 in Augusta, Mich.
