Bulldogs Fall In Scoring-Frenzy At Michigan Tech

Houghton, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell 6-4 in a high-scoring contest at (RV) Michigan Tech in Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) action Friday (Nov. 26) at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Ferris State freshman forward Nick Nardecchia picked up a pair of points to lead the way for the Dawgs on the night.

Early in the contest, Ferris State killed off a penalty and cashed in when Nardecchia stole a puck at center ice and flew in on a breakaway, where he scored his first collegiate goal at 2:39 of the first period for a 1-0 Bulldog lead.

The Huskies replied at 11:16 when Trenton Bliss had a one-time bullet stopped by Ferris State senior goaltender Roni Salmenkangas - after a pair of strong saves Bliss cashed in on the third rebound to tie the game at 1-1.

Ferris State went back up at 12:30 of the first period when senior forward Jake Transit finished off a two-on-one for his third goal of the year. Nardecchia (2) and senior forward Ethan Stewart (2) picked up the helpers on the play for a 2-1 Bulldog lead.

Off of an offensive zone faceoff, Ferris State senior forward Marshall Moise ripped a shot for the top left corner to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead at 18:42 of the first period. Sophomore forward Stepan Pokorny picked up his sixth assist of the year on the play.

Michigan Tech scored twice in the second period to tie the game, Bliss first at 5:51, followed by Colin Swoyer at 15:44 to even the contest at 3-3.

In the third period, Brian Halonen gave MTU the lead at 3:31, followed by Tristan Ashbrook's goal at 12:27. Ashbrook scored a power play goal at 17:45 for a 6-3 Michigan Tech lead.

Pushing for late tallies, Ferris State scored again at 19:15 when senior forward Liam MacDougall drove the net-front and deflected in his fifth goal of the year for the 6-4 final. Sophomore defenseman Drew Cooper (4) and senior forward Justin Michaelian (8) earned the helpers on the goal.

Ferris State was outshot 32-22 on the night and was held 0-3 on the power play. Michigan Tech went 1-3 with three power play shots.

In goal, Salmenkangas made 26 saves in the loss for the Bulldogs while Blake Pietila made 18 stops for the MTU win.

Ferris State wraps the weekend series at Michigan Tech on Saturday (Nov. 27) at 6:07 p.m. (ET) in CCHA play.
