Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell to St. Lawrence by a 5-2 score on Friday (Nov. 3) in non-conference action at Ewigleben Ice Arena.

The Bulldogs (2-4-1) hosted the Skating Saints for the first time since 2013. In the 13th all-time meeting between the two squads, St. Lawrence prevailed after building an early lead.

The Saints started hot, striking just 1:12 into the first period. Cameron Buhl scored his second goal of the season on a shot that beat Noah Giesbrecht five-hole. Felikss Gavars and Justin Paul assisted. Tomáš Mazura scored at the 7:25 mark in the first to extend the Saints' lead to 2-0. Jan Lasak and Drake Burgin assisted.

Gavars tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the campaign at the 7:39 mark of period two, which proved to be the only goal in the second period for either team. Philippe Chapleau and Paul recorded the helpers.

Ferris State got on the board early in the third period during 4-on-4 action. Antonio Venuto took a pass over the top from Stepan Pokorny and worked behind the goal. Pokorny then found Venuto on the side of the net, where Venuto skated in front of the crease and went five-hole on Ben Kraws for his team-leading fifth goal of the year. Pokorny got the assist.

Just 30 seconds later and still skating 4-on-4, Paul scored and extended the Saints' lead back to three goals. His goal came from Mason Waite and Tyler Cristall and gave St. Lawrence a 4-1 advantage. The Saints added a fifth goal at 6:42 in the third from Burgin. Max Dorrington and Mazura assisted.

Sophomore Caiden Gault scored his first goal of the year for the Bulldogs at 11:30. Luigi Benincasa raced behind the net and found Gault in the faceoff circle, who buried the shot. Zach Faremouth and Benincasa each assisted.

In the game, St. Lawrence had four skaters earn multiple points, with Paul leading the way on a goal and two helpers. Mazura, Burgin and Gavars each recorded a goal and an assist. It was the first time this season the Saints scored five goals in a game.

The Bulldogs went 0-1 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill. The Bulldogs outshot the Saints 27-25 and won the faceoff battle 34-31. Giesbrecht made 20 saves on 25 shots faced.

For the Saints, Kraws saved 25-27 shots faced and earned the win.
