Bulldog Hockey Suffers 4-0 Setback in Road Contest with Minnesota State

Mankato, Minn. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team concluded their regular season series with Minnesota State University Saturday (Jan. 13) and fell to the Mavericks 4-0 at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.

The Bulldogs (6-16-1) started Noah Giesbrecht between the pipes Saturday, and he had a strong performance, making 36 saves on 40 shots faced. Alex Tracy got the nod for the Mavericks between the pipes, and he recorded his first shutout this season with a 24-24 performance.

For the second night in a row, Josh Groll started the scoring for Minnesota State. He struck at 2:12, the first Maverick goal at even strength in the series. Adam Eisele and Brian Carrabes assisted.

Luc Wilson scored at 11:05 in the first period to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead. Eisele again assisted, and Groll tallied the other helper. Sam Morton ended the scoring in the first period at 15:53, with Wilson and Lucas Sowder tallying the assists. After the first period, Minnesota State had 16 shots on goal for the second night in a row.

The only other goal came at 12:36 in the second period from Kaden Bohlsen. Brett Moravec and Campbell Cichosz recorded the assists.

For the game, Minnesota State took 40 shots on goal, won 26 faceoffs, committed five penalties and were 5-5 on their penalty kill chances. The Bulldogs had 24 shots on goal, won 23 faceoffs, had four penalties and were 4-4 on their penalty kill chances.

Alex Tracy recorded his first shutout of the season in his seventh win of the year. Giesbrecht took the loss, and the Bulldogs fell to 4-11 in conference play. 

Travis Shoudy and Andy Noel each recorded three blocked shots, while Austin McCarthy was 6-1 on the faceoff circle.

Ferris State will be back in action Friday (Jan. 19) for a home game against Lake Superior State University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. (ET) with pregame coverage beginning on Sunny 97.3 FM at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
