Bulldog Hockey Suffers Overtime Setback on the Road Against Bemidji State

Bemidji, Minn. – For just the second time this year, the Ferris State University men's ice hockey team fell in overtime. The Bemidji State Beavers had a 3-2 victory Thursday (Feb. 15) over the Bulldogs in the Sanford Center.

The Bulldogs (10-19-1) played in their ninth overtime game of the season, and their loss was just the second time they were unable to emerge victorious with the other game being a 3-2 setback to Minnesota State back on Nov. 11.

Logan Stein had a strong performance between the pipes for the Bulldogs, turning away 34-of-37 shots faced. Zach Faremouth had a multi-point game with two assists, his second multi-point game in his last three outings.

Bemidji State started the scoring at 12:25 in the first period. Jere Vaisanen's sixth goal of the season came on a rebound chance with Carter Jones and Will Magnuson assisting.

Jacob Dirks tied the game at 1-1 for FSU 1:50 into the second period. Faremouth won a puck battle in the corner and fired a pass to Dirks crashing down the right-wing side, who buried his second goal of the year.

The Beavers took the lead back at 12:14 on another rebound goal, this time from Jackson Jutting. His seventh goal came with assists by Austin Jouppi and Kasper Magnussen.

Ferris State had the lone goal in the third period from Drew Cooper. Trevor Taulien wrapped around the net and fired a pass to Cooper, who backhanded a shot past Mattias Sholl. His first goal of the season came from Taulien and Faremouth, and tied the game 2-2.

Adam Flammang ended the game 1:31 into overtime. He beat Stein to the top-left corner and gave the Beavers a 3-2 win. Vaisanen and Kyle Looft assisted.

For the game, the Bulldogs won 26 faceoffs, had 21 shots on goal, killed their only penalty and blocked 13 shots. Three of those came from Jack Mesic, and Antonio Venuto had two blocks. The Beavers won 23 faceoffs, had 37 shots on goal, killed their only penalty and blocked 20 shots.

Sholl took the win for the Beavers with a 19-of-21 save performance. Vaisanen and Faremouth each had multiple points.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Friday (Feb. 16) for the season series finale against Bemidji State. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. (ET) with pregame coverage beginning on Sunny 97.3 FM at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
