Bulldog Hockey Falls 4-1 to Bemidji in Road CCHA Tilt

Bemidji, Minn. – The Ferris State University men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-1 setback against the Bemidji State University Beavers Friday (Feb. 16) at the Sanford Center.

The Bulldogs (10-20-1) scored first in the game but were unable to hold the lead. Their 18 shots on goal represented the second lowest mark of the campaign (17 vs Alaska). Noah Giesbrecht got the start in goal for Ferris State, making 32 saves on 36 shots faced.

Stepan Pokorny scored the first goal of the night on the power play at 7:14 in the first period. His eighth goal of the season came on a perfectly placed shot that beat Mattias Sholl and gave FSU a 1-0 lead. Travis Shoudy had his 16th assist and 20th point of the year, while Jason Brancheau also assisted.

Bemidji State had the next four goals, two coming in each of the second and third periods. First, at 3:19 in the second, Rhys Chiddenton scored his second goal of the year to tie the game. Jake McLean and Eric Pohlkamp assisted. Kirklan Irey gave the Beavers their first lead of the game at 4:48. Lleyton Roed and Eric Martin had the helpers.

In the third period, Roed scored at 13:07, putting the Beavers up by two goals. Chiddenton and Patrik Satosaari assisted. Jere Vaisanen scored the final goal of the game at 15:21 from Mitch Wolfe and Carter Jones, giving the Beavers a 4-1 win.

The Bulldogs had 18 shots on goal compared to 36 for the Beavers. FSU dominated the faceoff circle, winning 39 draws and losing only 19. Pokorny converted the lone power play opportunity for Ferris State, and the Bulldogs killed off both their penalties.

Sholl took the win while stopping 17 shots. Roed and Chiddenton each had multi-point performances with a goal and an assist each.

Pokorny went 18-5 on the faceoff circle, while Zach Faremouth was 10-4. Jack Mesic blocked six shots, and Nico DeVita had three blocks. As a team, the Bulldogs had 20 blocked shots.

Ferris State will be back in action Friday (Feb. 23) for their final home series of the regular-season when the Northern Michigan Wildcats come to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. (ET) with pregame coverage beginning on Sunny 97.3 FM at 6:30 p.m. (ET).
