Ferris State Claims Key Regional Men's Tennis Victory On The Road At Lewis

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team ran its winning streak to five-straight matches as the Bulldogs recorded a 6-3 triumph over host Lewis  (Ill.) University in a key regional match on Thursday (April 2) in Plainfield, Ill.

The Bulldogs, who have now won six of their last seven outings overall to date this year, moved to 12-5 overall this season in the battle between two teams ranked in the latest top 10 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Rankings.

FSU, ranked fifth in the region and 47th nationally, swept the doubles round in building an early 3-0 advantage over the region's ninth-ranked Flyers. The wins came by scores of 8-5, 8-4 and 8-3 at the first, second and third flights in the lineup, respectively.

Despite giving up the top three positions in the singles lineup, the Bulldogs came away with the impressive win by sweeping the bottom three singles flights. All three of the wins came in straight-sets by decisive scores.

One of the day's highlights came at the number one doubles flight where the tandem of seniors Laurent Galarneau and Aaron Dial knocked off the nation's third-ranked pairing of Lewis' Erik Aunapuu and Armand Levandi, who were also first in the region, by an 8-5 count.

The Flyers fell to 8-6 overall this year with the loss in the match, which was played indoor at the Five Star Tennis Center in Plainfield.

Ferris State, which is unbeaten this year and atop the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings with a 5-0 league record, will host archrival Northwood in a key conference outing to open a two-match homestand on Thursday, April 9. Match time is set for 2 p.m. (ET) at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.
