Ferris State Men's Tennis Performs Well In ITA Regional Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis team took part in the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships over the weekend in Grand Rapids.

The event began on Saturday (Sept. 19) with action continuing into the early part of this week.

In the Singles "A" Division, FSU's Vasil Surduk won his opening two matches before bowing out in the third round. Meanwhile, freshman Till von Winning won his first match prior to being eliminated in round two. 

The Bulldogs' Tyler Bridges and Steward Sell also competed in the "A" division, but fell in the opening round. Bridges went on to post a 1-1 mark in the "A" singles consolation round while Sell dropped his only consolation encounter.

In the "B" Division, FSU's Daniil Tarantinov and Raleigh Grossbaum both posted 3-0 marks to reach the semifinals before the event concluded.

In the Doubles "A" bracket, the tandem of Surduk and von Winning won their opening match before falling in the round of 16. Meanwhile, the pairing of Bridges and Sell also went 1-1 and reached the round of 16 in the event.

Ferris State's Camplin and Taranitov teamed up to win the Doubles "B" division as they posted a 4-0 record. The grouping of Levy and Grossbaum fell in the doubles "B" division first round, but came back to win four-straight matches to capture the Doubles B Consolation title.

FSU will host its own Bulldog Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26, at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids. The annual event wraps up the fall schedule for the men's tennis squad.
