Ferris State's Danny Hunt Tabbed Division II Tennis National & Regional Assistant Coach Of Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University men's and women's tennis assistant coach Danny Hunt, who has helped guide the Bulldog men to the NCAA Division II Final Four this week in Denver, has been honored as the 2015-16 Division II National Assistant Coach of the Year.

Along with garnering the men's national assistant of the year honor, Hunt was also tabbed as the Midwest Region's Assistant Coach of the Year.

The awards were announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in conjunction with the NCAA Division II Tennis Championships in Denver.

This year, Hunt helped Ferris State earn its second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular-season championship, posting an undefeated record in the process before also winning the league postseason tournament. Ferris State was ranked No. 2 in the Midwest Region and No. 35 nationally. Nominated by head coach Chad Berryhill, Hunt has been instrumental in the day-to-day practice and conducted the majority of the team's strength and conditioning this season. He's also assisted in fundraising efforts, while serving as the Assistant Tennis Professional at the Ferris State University Racquet & Fitness Center. 

A 2014 graduate of Ferris State's nationally-acclaimed Professional Tennis Management (PTM) program, Hunt is currently midst his first season with the Bulldogs and formerly served as the Director of Tennis at The Grand Hotel of Mackinaw Island in the summers of 2012 and 2013.

While a student at Ferris State, Hunt served as the president of FSU's PTM Student Association in 2013-14 in addition to his involvement at the Racquet and Fitness Center. He was also the Director of Tennis at the Norton Pines Athletic Club in Spring Lake in 2010-11.

During his coaching career, Hunt has helped develop several ranked junior players, created and ran successful commercial tennis programming and also coached a variety of travel teams while running sanctioned United States Tennis Association (USTA) Tournaments. In addition, he also formed the Whitehall Summer Tennis Program where he served as the Director of Tennis for four years.

A certified United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Professional, Hunt and his wife, Jessica, have a two young boys, Brodyn and Jaxson.

The Bulldogs, who have compiled a school-record 25 wins to date this campaign, will square off against Hawaii Pacific in the national semifinals on Friday (May 20) afternoon in Denver starting at 3 p.m. (ET).
