Home Sweep For Bulldog Tennis Teams As FSU Beats Michigan Tech On Friday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads started off a weekend homestand with a big sweep over Michigan Tech on Friday (March 25) inside the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs topped MTU in the women's contest 4-3 and finished the sweep with a 6-1 triumph over the Huskies in the men's contest.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 6-5 overall in women's action and 1-1 in the GLIAC while the men's team moved to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The two teams are also now a combined 10-1 overall at home this year.

"It was a solid day for us," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "The women started the day with a gritty win and Michigan Tech is a solid team that can beat anyone in the GLIAC so we were really happy to pull off the win.

"On the men's side, Tech is an extremely improved team," he added. "We had to lift our games today to pull off the victory. All in all, it was great tennis to get in rhythm going into tomorrow's match with Lake Superior State."

In the women's match, the Bulldogs took two of the three doubles contests for the initial point and split the six singles contests to garner the win.

Meanwhile, in the men's contest, FSU swept the doubles round and proceeded to claim five of six singles flights for the victory.

Both Ferris State teams are back in action on Saturday (March 26), hosting Lake Superior State in another conference doubleheader. The women get underway at 10 a.m. (ET) with the men taking the court at approximately 2 p.m. (ET).
