Bulldog Tennis Squads Give Rollins All It Can Handle In Florida Doubleheader

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads continued spring break action on Wednesday (March 8) as the Bulldogs took on Rollins College in non-league play at Copeland Stadium in Winter Park, Fla.

The Bulldog women suffered a 5-2 setback to the hands of Rollins while the men's team dropped a close 4-3 against the Tars.

Ferris State entered the men's tilt ranked 11th nationally in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rankings announced today while Rollins was listed 19th in the country.

In the women's contest, Rollins struck first and swept the doubles round for the initial point of the afternoon. The Tars also took the top three singles flights and held off the Bulldogs, who picked up wins at four and five singles on the day.

FSU's wins in the women's match came from Parker Nolan by a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 count at four singles along with Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer at five singles in a match completed at 7-5, 6-2 in her favor.

The Bulldog women, now 6-5 overall, will wrap up their spring break trip to Florida by taking on Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday (March 10) starting at 10 a.m. (ET).

On the men's side, the Bulldogs claimed the doubles point early, getting wins from the top tandem of Jan Koupil and Benjamin Lortie along with the third pairing of Yannic Alexander Mader and Erik Kovacs.

The Tars, though, rallied in singles play, winning four of the six overall flights. FSU's lone wins came at four singles from Lortie and at five singles by Alessandro Santangelo. The Bulldogs' Yannic Mader narrowly dropped a highly-contested 7-6, 7-6 decision at three singles in an epic battle that sent the contest to the wire.

The Bulldog men will also face Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday in the final match of the spring trip beginning at 10 a.m. (ET).

Ferris State entered the contest ranked 11th in the country in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rankings announced on Wednesday. The number 11 ranking is believed to be the program's highest national ranking in more than 20 years.
