Ferris State Tennis Squads Earn League Road Sweep At LSSU As Men Capture Share Of League Crown

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis squads earned a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road sweep on Friday (April 14), beating Lake Superior State in league play in Sault Ste. Marie.

The Bulldogs claimed the women's match with a decisive 6-1 win while the men's squad pulled out a 4-3 triumph.

With the men's victory, Ferris State also clinched at least a share of the GLIAC Championship and FSU can stake sole claim to the outright title with a win in the final regular-season contest on Saturday.

On the women's side, the Bulldogs swept the doubles round and captured five of the six singles flights, including four in straight-sets. LSSU's lone win came at three singles in the contest.

Meanwhile, the men's squad also claimed the doubles point by taking two of the three spots in the match, which was contested at the Arbuckle Student Activities Center. The Lakers managed to win at the first and second singles positions along with the sixth flight, but FSU came up strong in the middle, winning the third, fourth and fifth flights. The decision included three-set triumphs at four and five singles.

The Bulldog women improved to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in the GLIAC with the win while the men's squad is now 13-3 overall and still unbeaten in conference play at 5-0 on the year.

Ferris State will wrap up GLIAC regular-season play on Saturday (April 15) as the Bulldogs visit Michigan Tech.The women's match gets underway at 10 a.m. (ET) in Houghton with the men's contest to follow at 2 p.m. (ET).
