Ferris State Tennis Squads Close Out Florida Trip With Regional Sweep Over Rockhurst

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams both closed out their annual spring break trip to Florida with a big regional win as each team pulled out a 4-3 victory over Rockhurst (Mo.) in neutral site action near Orlando.

The Bulldog women's team jumped in front early against the Hawks, taking the doubles point with wins at the first two flights in the lineup.

In singles play, Ferris State got a three-set win from Morgan Waller at two singles along with a 6-4, 6-1 win by Aimee Reynoso Cupido at six singles. FSU's Kennedy Dumas clinched the victory by pulling out a 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-8 triumph in a three-setter at the fourth spot in the lineup.

In the men's match, the Bulldogs had to battle back after dropping the doubles point. Ferris State captured the top doubles position with a win by the combination of Esunge Ndumbe and Benjamin Lortie, but Rockhurst claimed the second and third spots in building an early advantage.

However, the Bulldogs had a big showing in the singles round to rally back for the win. Ndumbe was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at one singles while Erik Kovacs won by identical scores at five singles. Senior Jan Koupil was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at six singles and Alessandro Santangelo clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-5, 10-3 triumph at the fourth singles flight.

The Bulldogs will return home for a pair of regional tilts at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center, hosting Tiffin on March 15 and Walsh on March 16 in Big Rapids in both men's and women's competition.
