Ferris State Athletes Finished Action In Two Big Meets Hosted By GVSU This Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads sent student-athletes to two different competitions hosted by Grand Valley State on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 11-12) in Allendale.

A total of more than 1,800 athletes from over 150 teams competed on Friday at the Friday Big Meet with more than 1,000 athletes taking part in the Saturday Big Meet. Both events were among the largest of the season in collegiate track and field.

On Friday, FSU's Donis Harris placed 29th overall in the men's 5,000 meters as he was clocked in 15:13.17.

In men's action on Saturday, FSU's Ray Lee placed third in the 60 meters (7.02). FSU's Dakota Simpson placed sixth in the 400 meters (50.81) and Randall Kuch was 18th (52.23).

The Bulldogs' Noah Griffith took 10th place in the mile (4:21.07) with Ethan Hamilton finishing 21st overall (4:30.71). Harris also competed on Saturday in the 3,000 meters and came in 10th (8:32.53).

In the throws, FSU's Jake Zammitta finished ninth in the shot put (13.73m) with Forrest Akers 11th (12.83m). Kyle Drouillard was 12th in the weight throw (14.41m).

Ferris State's 4x400-meter relay team of Kuch, Hamilton, Andrew Shafley and Simpson placed eighth overall (3:36.26).

In women's action, FSU's Hanna Brock placed 18th in the mile (5:19.39) with Danae Feldpausch 20th (5:19.88), Sydney Kubiak 22nd (5:20.45) and Callie Delaney 24th (5:21.12). Hannah Loucks finished 25th in the 3,000 meters (10:51.90).

Meanwhile, Claudia Wilkinson came in 25th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.76). She was also fifth in the high jump (1.53m) on the field event side.

FSU's Brianna Copley captured fifth place in the shot put (13.20m) with Emma Stephayn 10th in the weight throw (15.16m).

The Bulldogs' women's 4x400-meter relay team of Makayla RobertsMadison HammerKayla Muth and Kaylee Huey placed ninth (4:28.05). FSU's distance medley relay quartet of Brock, Daisy England, Feldpausch and Kubiak took 22nd place (12:38.16).

Ferris State returns to action on Friday, Feb. 18, at the Saginaw Valley State Tune-Up meet in University Center before returning to Allendale for the GLIAC Indoor Championships set for Feb. 26-27.
