Bulldog Track Squads Start Outdoor Season Strong At MSU Spartan Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads opened the 2022 outdoor campaign on Friday and Saturday (April 1-2), competing in the annual Michigan State Spartan Invitational at Ralph Young Field in East Lansing.

The event included competitors across the state and region from all levels of competition.

FSU's Kaylee Huey was third (2:31.80) and Katrina Droski finished fourth (2:35.30) in the unseeded 800 meters. Brianna Copley captured fifth place in the women's discus (44.47m) and was also eighth in the shot put (13.55m).

Meanwhile, Layla Creed placed eighth in the unseeded women's 1,500-meter run (5:32.90).

Sydney Kubiak came in fourth in the women's 5,000 meters (18:07.60) with Melanea Strauss eighth (18:51.32) and Callie Delaney ninth (18:51.35) in the same race.

The Bulldogs' Andrew Yaworski took second place in the men's unseeded 800-meter race (2:07.44). FSU's Ray Lee captured third place in the men's 100 meters (11.01).

Ferris State's Jason Keena wound up sixth in the men's javelin (44.49m) and Forrest Akers placed 10th in the men's discus (41.06m).

The Bulldogs will next take part in the Jim Vargo Invite set for April 8-9 in Louisville, Ky.
