Strong Day For Bulldog Track Squads! Total Of 34 Top-Eight Finishes

Big Rapids, Much. - The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams had a strong day on Friday (Feb. 16) at the Saginaw Valley State Tune-Up event in University Center.

The Bulldogs finished with a total of 34 top-eight meet finishes in the event, which served as a final test prior to next week's league championships at the same site.

The Bulldogs' Danae Feldpausch won the women's mile (5:02.77) while Hanna Brock came in second (5:10.29). Nyah Tyron placed first in the 400 meters (1:00.72) and Makayla Roberts took fourth (1:02.7) in the race.

Meanwhile Claudia Wilkinson finished first in the high jump (5-4.25).

Ferris State had four of the top five finishers in the women's 3,000 meters as Whitney Farrell was second (10:12.96) followed by Brock in third (10:31.5), Melanea Strauss in fourth (10:49.57) and Becci Castillo in fifth (10:58.79). Meanwhile, Kaylee Huey was eighth (11:08.57).

FSU's Lacey Zimmerman placed fifth in the 200 meters (26.46), Diana Candela came in sixth in the 5,000 meters (20:01.49) and Ella Kowatch was eighth in the mile (5:19.31) along with eighth in the 800 meters (2:22.27). Rebecca Marvin wound up seventh in the shot put (35-2.50) and took eighth in the weight throw (44-2.75).

Ferris State's Chase Carter won the men's 60 meters (6.88) while Ignatius Jackson was fourth (7.00) and Bryson Fronta sixth (7.09) in the event. Carter also placed third in the 200 meters (22.42) with Fronta eighth (22.72) while Ethan Hamilton placed third in the 600 meters (1:27.68).

The Bulldogs' Cooper Sorsen came in third in the 3,000 meters (8:57.04) and Caleb Branch was fifth (9:00.70) with Brendan Cairney eighth (9:06.39).

Dean Topolski finished third in the 400 meters (51.34) and Blaine Rogers was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.74). Nathan Alford placed seventh in the 5,000 meters (16:17.31) and Kevin Wilson was eighth in the 800 meters (1:59.92).

FSU's Levi Tuinstra finished fifth in the high jump (6-0), Ben Dousuah was seventh in the long jump (18-8.50) and Devin Dennison placed eighth in the weight throw (47-8).

FSU was also fifth in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:31.97) with the school's second unit coming in sixth (3:35.12).

Ferris State will compete in the 2024 GLIAC Indoor Championships back in University Center on Feb. 24-25.
