Ferris State Track Squads Continue Prep For GLIAC Championships At Al Owens Classic

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continued preparations for the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships as both squads had student-athletes in action over the weekend at the annual Al Owens Classic held in Allendale.

In the women's 5,000 meters, Ferris State's Hanna Brock took second place (17:57.84) followed by Whitney Farrell in third place (18:01.02). The Bulldogs' Melanea Strauss came in sixth (18:40.37) and Jessica Durkee was eighth (19:06.72) in the race.

Meanwhile, Nyah Tyron was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles (1:05.44) and Claudia Wilkinson was second in the high jump (5-3.75). Emily Plouff placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:20.15) and Angela Kotecki was fifth in the long jump (17-2.25).

FSU's Rebecca Marvin placed fifth in the shot put (37-8.75) with Harley Bear seventh (37-0.5). Lacey Zimmerman took seventh place in the 200 meters (25.84) and Marvin was 10th in the hammer throw (120-11).

Ferris State was also third in the women's 4x400-meter relay as the quartet of Kotecki, Makayla Roberts, Daisy Englund and Kayla Muth was timed in 4:18.59 in the race.

On the men's side, Hunter Richardson placed third in the shot put (41-4.5) and Devin Dennison was third in the discus (143-0) with Kyle Drouillard third in the javelin (156-5). Dennison also came in fourth in the hammer throw (155-0) and Richardson also was fourth in the discus (143-0) and eighth in the hammer throw (132-6). Drouillard placed eighth in the invite section of the hammer throw (151-4).

FSU's Dean Topolski came in fifth in the 400 meters (51.04). Ben Knuth took seventh place in the 5,000 meters (15:31.67), Ignatius Jackson placed seventh in the 100 meters (11.17) and Blaine Rogers came in seventh in the 110 hurdles (16.00). David Duvall was seventh in the long jump (22-0.25) and Aaron Pierce ninth (21-7.5).

Bryson Fronta was 10th in the 200 meters (22.44).

Ferris State was also sixth in the men's 4x400-meter relay with the group of Lucas Vandam, Kevin Wilson, Tyrese Beedle and Topolski clocked in 3:34.91.

The Bulldogs will head back to Allendale for the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet on April 27. The GLIAC Outdoor Championships then take place on May 2-3 in Allendale.
