Strong Showing For Ferris State Track Squads In Final Prep For GLIAC Championships

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field squads solidified preparation for the upcoming 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships by competing in the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet in Allendale.

The competition was moved up to Thursday due to expected weather conditions and the Bulldogs performed well in the event, which was hosted by Grand Valley State University.

The Bulldogs' 4x100-meter relay team of Blaine Rogers, Bryson Fronta, Taariik Brett and Chase Carter won the event, posting a school-record time of 41.09 in the race.

In addition, Carter also won the 100 meters (10.69) and the 200 meters (21.58).

Fronta placed third in the 200 meters (22.16). Rogers was ninth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.42), Dean Topolski came in eighth in the 400 meters (50.19) and Brett placed 10th in the 100 meters (11.05). Brandon Wirth was 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:30.28).

In the field events, Aaron Pierce took fifth place in the long jump (21-4.25) and David Duvall was sixth (21-4). Hunter Richardson came in seventh in the shot put (45-3.75) and Devin Dennison was 11th in the discus (139-6).

The Bulldogs' Whitney Farrell topped her own school record and again surpassed the NCAA D2 National Provisional qualifying time with a 10th-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:53.50).

Ferris State's Nyah Tyron was the runner-up in the 400 hurdles (1:05.40) and Claudia Wilkinson took second place in the high jump (5-1.75). Angela Kotecki was third in the long jump (16-10).

FSU's women's 4x100-meter relay team of Kotecki, Frances Hoffman, Ana Fortier and Lacey Zimmerman placed third overall (50.47).

FSU's Zimmerman placed sixth overall in the 100 meters (12.56) along with ninth in the 200 meters (26.16). Makayla Roberts took 10th place in the 400 meters (1:00.69).

In the throws, Rebecca Marvin finished seventh in the shot put (38-7) and was eighth in the discus (126-4).

The GLIAC Outdoor Championships will take place May 2-3 back in Allendale and be hosted by GVSU.
