Ferris State Closes Out Action At Music City Invitational On Sunday

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team closed out its season-opening weekend trip to Nashville with a pair of regional setbacks on Sunday (Feb. 19) at the Music City Invitational in Tennessee.

The Bulldogs fell to McKendree (Ill.) 4-0 in the opener before dropping a 6-0 decision to Findaly in the finale.

In the opening game, the Bulldogs gave up only five hits to the Bearcats, but had only two of their own in the tilt. FSU's Abby Mitchell doubled in the game while Kaitlyn Orme also tallied a hit for the Bulldogs and Evelyn Blood recorded a stolen base.

Veteran Kristie Gray got the start for the Bulldogs in the pitching circle and allowed only one earned run on four hits with three walks in three and two-thirds of an inning. Catherine O'Donohue came on and tossed two and one-thirds of an inning, giving up only one hit with a strikeout.

In game two, Findlay struck for nine hits and allowed five to the Bulldogs in earning the win. FSU's five hits came from five different batters, including Kylie Winkels, Josie Prince, Orme, Blood and Jadyn Joseph. Additionally, Amara Zukowski stole a base for the Bulldogs.

FSU's Aryn Gallacher tossed four innings of game two, allowing four earned runs on six hits with a strikeout. Aubrie Lafferty pitched one and one-third of an inning while giving up three hits. Finally, O'Donohue pitched one and two-thirds, striking out three in a scoreless and hitless performance.

The Bulldogs will return to action next week, Feb. 23-25, at the Lewis Dome Invitational in Rosemont, Ill.
