Ferris State Garners Regional Road Victory To Stay Perfect This Season

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's basketball squad stayed unbeaten as the Bulldogs registered an 89-59 regional road win at Northwood on Wednesday (Nov. 15) evening in Midland.

Ferris State jumped in front early, taking a 22-12 advantage after the opening period of play before pushing the edge to 15 points at halftime. The Bulldogs picked right back up in the third quarter with an 18-8 edge and outscored NU 24-19 in the fourth period to account for the final margin.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 3-0 overall this year and all three victories have came against regional opponents.

Senior guard Mallory McCartney had a huge game for the Bulldogs, finishing with a game-high 34 points on 13-of-17 shooting, including an eight-of-11 effort from the three-point stripe. She also added six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The Bulldogs also got 15 points and seven rebounds from senior forward Chloe Idoni along with 12 points and six rebounds from junior guard Kadyn Blanchard. FSU's Kenzie Bowers added eight points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Ferris State shot 51.5% from the floor overall and went 11-of-26 (42.3%) from the three-point line while making 10-of-13 (76.9%) free throws. FSU owned a 45-35 rebounding advantage and pulled down 12 offensive boards.

Overall, the Bulldogs had 12 turnovers, but also came up with 11 steals on NU's 13 turnovers. Ferris State finished with 21 assists in the game and limited NU to 32.3% shooting and a seven-of-32 (21.9%) showing from the three-point arc.

Northwood was led by Maddie Voelker with 14 points off the bench. Big Rapids native Jayla Strickland added 13 points and eight rebounds in a starting role.

The Bulldogs are off until their home opener in two weeks, which is slated for Wednesday, Nov. 29, against Spring Arbor at Wink Arena starting at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
