#11 Ferris State Opens Upper Peninsula Trip With Road Victory Over Michigan Tech

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 11th-ranked Ferris State University women's basketball squad opened up a two-game trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula with a 66-54 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road win over Michigan Tech on Thursday (Jan. 11) evening inside the SDC Gymnasium in Houghton.

The Bulldogs opened up a 16-9 first quarter lead and held an 11-point halftime edge before eventually pushing the margin to as many as 18 points midway thru the third quarter. MTU battled back, but the Bulldogs pulled away again down the stretch to garner the win.

With the victory, Ferris State is now 9-2 overall and off to a 3-1 start in GLIAC action.

Junior Kenzie Bowers led FSU in the win, scoring a team-high 14 points while adding a squad-best seven rebounds and three assists in addition to two steals. Meanwhile, sophomore Elle Irwin added 13 points to help the Bulldog cause, finishing four-of-eight from the floor and three-of-six behind the three-point line. The Bulldogs also got nine points from Kadyn Blanchard to go along with eight points each from seniors Chloe Idoni and Mallory McCartney.

Ferris State finished shooting 45.5% from the floor and FSU finished 10-of-22 (45.5%) from long range along with a perfect six-of-six (100%) at the free throw line.

The Bulldogs out rebounded Michigan Tech 34-28 for the night and FSU outscored the Huskies 28-24 inside the paint along with 25-17 in points off turnovers. Defensively, the Bulldogs held MTU to 37.5% shooting with Michigan Tech making eight-of-31 (25.8%) three's and four-of-six (66.7%) free throws.

The Huskies were led by Katelyn Meister with a game-high 16 points. Isabella Lenz added 15 points in the setback as MTU fell to 6-7 overall this year.

Ferris State will close out its trip to the Upper Peninsula by facing Northern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 13) inside the Berry Sports Center in Marquette starting at 1 p.m. (ET).
