#4 Ferris State Falls At Home To Saginaw Valley State In Low-Scoring GLIAC Battle

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nation's fourth-ranked Ferris State University women's basketball squad had its 10-game winning streak stopped on Thursday (Feb. 17) evening as FSU fell to visiting Saginaw Valley State by a 47-44 score on Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs were held well below their season scoring average and shot only 30.4% from the floor in the contest, falling to 17-3 overall and 11-2 in conference play.

FSU, which played without senior guard Mallory McCartney due to injury, took a 14-10 first-quarter lead and held a three-point halftime edge. Ferris State led by four after three quarters, but the Cardinals tallied 16 fourth-quarter points in notching the win.

Along with McCartney's absence, senior standout Chloe Idoni also battled foul trouble and was limited to only four field goal attempts and 20 minutes in the game.

Senior forward DeShonna Day tallied a game-high 12 points for the Bulldogs while adding seven rebounds and five steals in addition to two assists and two blocked shots. Junior Kadyn Blanchard chipped in with 10 points and six boards along with four steals.

Along with shooting only 30.4% from the floor, the Bulldogs finished two-of-18 (11.1%) from the three-point line and eight-of-13 (61.5%) at the free throw stripe.

Saginaw Valley State had no one reach double-figures in the win and the Cardinals turned the ball over 30 times, but found a way to pull out the road victory after battling FSU in a close setback only two weeks ago. The Cardinals moved to 8-16 overall and 5-9 in the GLIAC with the win.

Ferris State outscored SVSU 25-10 in points off turnovers and 11-10 on the offensive glass. The Bulldogs were out rebounded 39-28 overall and FSU finished with 14 steals along with five blocked shots.

The Bulldogs will host Wayne State on Saturday (Feb. 17) in league play at Wink Arena starting at 1 p.m. (ET). Both teams will take part in the GLIAC's Play4Kay initiative raising support and awareness for women's cancer research during the contest.
