Strong Extra Session Gives #13 Ferris State Home Overtime Victory Against Parkside

Big Rapids, Mich. - The 13th-ranked Ferris State University women's basketball squad put together a big overtime performance to notch a 91-78 triumph over Parkside on Thursday (Feb. 29) night inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs outscored the Rangers 19-6 in the overtime period to garner their 20th win of the season while moving to 14-3 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Ferris State jumped in front early with a 24-18 first-period edge, but Parkside rallied and trimmed the lead to three at the halftime break. The Rangers eventually tied the game up at the end of three quarters and the game went back-and-forth the rest of the way before the extra session.

Ferris State sank 28-of-34 (82.4%) free throws in the win, including 12-of-12 (100%) in overtime.

Senior standout Chloe Idoni tallied a game-high 33 points for the Bulldogs win the win while adding five rebounds. Meanwhile, senior guard Mallory McCartney notched her first career triple-double with 18 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in addition to four steals in 45 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs also got 17 points from junior Kadyn Blanchard along with 16 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double effort from fellow junior Kenzie Bowers, who sank 11-of-11 (100%) free throws on her own.

FSU was limited to 35.4% shooting overall and went seven-of-35 (20%) from the three-point line, but the Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 49-41 overall and pulled down 20 offensive boards, leading to a 17-9 margin in points scored on the offensive glass.

Meanwhile, Parkside kept pace thanks to 49.2% shooting. The Rangers finished only four-of-24 (16.7%) from long range and were 10-of-19 (52.6%) at the free throw stripe.

Parkside was led by Kendal Zeiter with 25 points in addition to 14 by Gabriela Loiz and 10 by Sheridan Flauger.

The Bulldogs also forced 20 turnovers in the win and had only eight of their own, which helped lead to a 24-12 advantage in points scored off turnovers. FSU finished with 13 steals, but the Rangers held a 23-0 edge in fast break scoring and got 44 points off their bench to only seven for the Bulldogs.

The back and forth game featured 11 lead changes and was tied 14 times.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 20-4 overall this year. Parkside dropped to 14-11 overall and 9-8 in the GLIAC.

Ferris State will host Purdue Northwest on Saturday (March 2) in the regular-season finale at Wink Arena with tipoff set for 1 p.m. (ET) for the Senior Day game.
