Bulldogs Move Up To Fourth Overall In Final Day Of Annual Home Tournament

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team moved up a spot and improved its score by six strokes on Monday (Sept. 27) in the final round of its own Bulldog Fall Invite held at Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids.

FSU finished fourth overall in the two-day event, compiling a 36-hole score of 628 overall in the home event. After shooting a 317 team score on Sunday in round one, the Bulldogs came back with a 311 total over the final 18 holes of competition.

Overall, Grand Valley State finished at +10 or 598 in winning the team race followed by Findlay (612). Wayne State was third (626) with FSU fourth and Lewis fifth (628) in the 12-team event. The final round was played at 6,024 yards on the par 72 course, which was a little longer than Sunday's first-round yardage of 5,911 total yards.

The Bulldogs were led by Alayna Eldred, who climbed the leaderboard in the final round to finish tied for 11th overall with a 155 figure. She shot a 76 in the final round after carding a 79 in round one.

Meanwhile, Hope Thebo placed 16th in the field at 157 on a final round score of 75. She had shot an 82 in the opening round before bettering her score by seven shots.

FSU's Dani Staskowski shot an 80 on the final day and finished at 158 overall, which was good for a share of 17th place including her 78 total in round one.

Ferris State's Lauren Kempf also shot an 80 in round two and placed tied for 33rd in the field with a 164 stroke total. Her opening-round on Sunday came in with an 84 total.

Finally, Abby Grevel finished at 171 overall for the two days, shooting a 93 in the final round to go with her 78 in the opening round and placed tied for 51st overall.

Additionally, the Bulldogs' Juanita De La Cruz also competed as an individual and came in 69th overall with a 187 total on rounds of 97 and 90 on Sunday and Monday, respectively.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 4-5, at the William Beall Fall Classic hosted by the University of Findlay in Ohio.
