Ferris State Women's Golf Still In Contention To Advance After Two Rounds At NCAA East Regional

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team closed out day two competition on Tuesday (May 7) at the NCAA Division II East Regional Championships in seventh place overall and the Bulldogs remain in contention for a potential advancing spot entering the final round at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

The Bulldogs shot a 316 team figure in Tuesday's second 18 holes of play, lowering their team stroke by two strokes over Monday's day one figure, and are currently at 634 or +58 thru 36 holes of action. The final round of the 54-hole event takes place Wednesday (May 8) on the par 72 course measuring 6,061 yards.

Overall, Ferris State stayed in seventh place on the team leaderboard and FSU is only four strokes out of fifth place, which is presently held by Davenport with a +54 (630) total. The top five teams at the end of Wednesday's final round in the 15-school regional event will advance to the NCAA D2 National Championships.

After two rounds, Findlay holds the top spot (+24) in the field followed by host Indianapolis (+27), Ashland (+42), Grand Valley State (+44) and DU in the top five. Missouri-St. Louis is in sixth place at +56, which is two shots ahead of FSU. A total of only four strokes separate Davenport, UMSL and FSU for the fifth spot on the leaderboard.

Individually, FSU's Dani Staskowski sits tied for 11th in the field with a 153 total after two rounds. She shot a 77 in round one and a 76 in round two.

The Bulldogs' Lizzie Anderson carded a 79 in the second round following her first-round 80 score and is tied for 32nd in the field at 159 thru two days of competition.

Meanwhile, both Kamryn Shannon and Taylor Musselman are presently tied for 43rd overall with both shooting 163 totals to date. Shannon shot a 79 on Tuesday after opening with an 84 on Monday while Musselman notched an 82 in day two play, which was only a shot behind her 81 opening-round score.

Finally, the Bulldogs' Hallie Crozier finished with an 88 on Tuesday and is at 168 overall after two rounds, which is good for a share of 63rd place overall. She had posted a first-round 80 total.

Ferris State is slated to hit the tee early in round three on Wednesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. (ET) for the final round.

This year's berth marks the Bulldogs' third-straight berth. Two years ago, the Bulldogs placed 11th at the East Regional Championships in their first team trip to the postseason since 2014 when FSU finished fourth overall in the regional championships. The Bulldogs previously made 13 consecutive NCAA appearances from 2002 to 2014. Last season, Ferris State placed seventh overall in the East Regional in Springfield, Ill.

A total of 15 teams were selected from the East Region from a total of six different conferences in addition to six individual competitors from non-advancing schools.

All participants will compete through the 54 holes of competition with the top five teams from the East Region along with the top two individuals not on an advancing team following Wednesday's final round moving on to the national championships set for May 21-25 at the Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden, Fla.

Overall, the Bulldogs have twice captured a regional championship in 2003-04 and 2006-07 while attaining runner-up honors four times (2004-05, 2005-06, 2007-08, 2008-09).

Prior to earning an at-large bid this year, Ferris State reached the NCAA Tourney last year as the GLIAC's automatic qualifier after winning the league championship for the first time since 2007 during the 2023 spring season in Augusta, Mich. This year, the Bulldogs reached the conference semifinals back in mid-April in Augusta.
