Bulldog Soccer Falls In First Contest Of Upper Peninsula Trip

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 setback on the road against the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Friday (Sept. 16) afternoon in Marquette.

The Bulldogs opened their weekend trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula deadlocked at a goal apiece with the Wildcats at halftime. However, NMU scored twice in the second half in a three-minute span to earn the triumph.

The Wildcats got on the board quickly as Justina L'Esperance notched her sixth goal of the year off a Brenna Musser assist only 1:08 into the contest.

Ferris State responded soon after as Katie Nestico tallied her first goal of the season at 7:43 of the opening half. Senior Isabella Zamborini garnered the assist on the goal.

Northern Michigan, though, converted on a pair of opportunities in the second half. Maria Storm scored her first goal of the year off a Brooke Pietila assist at 58:58 before Pietila notched a goal of her own, which was her fifth of the campaign, at 61:54 and aided by Stephanie Trujillo.

In goal, NMU's Shenae Kreps picked up the win on three saves in 90 minutes of action while FSU's Darya Mosallaei stopped seven shots in going the distance.

The Wildcats held a 14-7 edge in total shots for the contest, including a 10-4 margin in shots on goal. NMU also had eight corner kick opportunities compared to five for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State will head to Houghton to face Michigan Tech to close out the trip on Sunday (Sept. 18) starting at 12 p.m. (ET).
